Independent sustainable power systems

Working and living on your land in a modern technological age sometimes demands the need for power systems. Power can be obtained in a number of ways, from wind turbines, hydro (water), solar (sun), and even thermal (underground).

Off-Grid Power System & Design

Solar Power

The most common form of independent power is known to us all and is provided for free, from our very own sun.

Solar power can easily provide a small holding or homestead, even a community in an arid desert, with ample power to sustain life and provide lighting, telecommunications, power for pumps, motors and more.

Geothermal Power

Geothermal comes from the Greek words geo (Earth) and therme (heat). Geothermal technology¬†harnesses the Earth’s heat. Just a few feet below the surface, the Earth maintains a near-constant temperature, in contrast to the summer and winter extremes of the ambient air above ground

However, geothermal energy is expensive to harvest on a large scale but can work very well in a polytunnel or greenhouse to help reduce extreme cold temperatures from damaging the plants.

Hydropower

Hydropower is the process of using the energy created by running or moving water and converting it into power. An example of this is often seen in reservoirs, where water is passed through controllable gates through turbines that create power for local communities.

A smaller-scale set up could be used for a stream or river. Where a turbine rotates with the flow and energy of the water creating electricity which can be stored for later use.

Wind Power

Wind power can also be generated and implemented into any permaculture design. It may be that your land is in an area that is susceptible to wind and would make sense to utilise this energy.

Wind-powered motors and generators come in all shapes and sizes and can even make from discarded goods. A washing machine or starter motor for example can be made into a generator fairly simply and will provide power for batteries where it can be stored until needed.

We provide full support and design assistance for any off-grid or mobile power system

If you need power and are unsure how to go about it, contact us, and we can design a system for you. We can even design the system and install it if you prefer.
